AWFS 2011:
We Won the Sequoia Award!

We are proud to announce our Micro Fence® Plunge Base & Edge-Guide Package won the AWFS 2011 Sequoia Award. We were particularly honored to be picked from an impressive field of entries as the leader in "Product Innovation" in the Power Tool category.

Speaking of product innovation, stay tuned for the Micro Fence® Micro Plunge Base, coming out in the forseeable future! Customers have been telling us that they wish we made a smaller version of our 'Portable Three-Axis Mill' Plunge Base...so we've been working on just that. Designed to be used with high-speed rotary tools like the Dremel and Proxxon, this little jewel will provide the same precision and quality of it's big brother, but in a much smaller footprint. We hope to be in production (barring any unforseen deal breakers), by the first of the year. We'll be announcing the beginning of pre-production orders sometime this fall...stay tuned.

OCTOBER SPOTLIGHT SALE IS NOW CLOSED.

The Woodworking Shows:
Gearing up for a New Seminar

The inlays seminar taught by Rich last season at The Woodworking Shows was a complete success. He's back this season expanding on inlay techniques which will include new techniques and tips as well as methods of adding architectural details to your projects. Stay tuned for for information coming soon. We'll be emailing a reminder about the show when it's in your area.

Master Gage:
Align, Set-Up, and Troubleshoot your Woodworking Machinary

Rich met Paul Reilly, the President and Founder of MasterGage, about 15 years ago on the woodworking trade show circuit. Their similar approach to precision in woodworking led to a friendship that has grown over the years. MasterGage has grown to include an impressive array of tools that will assist in checking and aligning virtually any tool in your shop.

Paul describes his tools as the result of his 40+ years as a practicing mechanical engineer involved in many industries designing precision tools and mechanisms. As a woodworker, he found that there was nothing available to align, calibrate, tune up, troubleshoot and set up his woodworking equipment. As a result, he developed these tools to fill that need, including the soon-to-be-released Magnetic Saw Gage.

All products are innovative, original and patented or in the patent pending stage with the United States Patent Office. Excepting the imported dial indicators, all products are made with pride in the USA. Although Paul doesn't do the shows, you can find his product line at the Micro Fence® booth or on our website. Just click here.

18' Bookcase Wall Unit for St. John's Seminary

St. John's Seminary is a picturesque Catholic monestary in southern California that is composed of an impressive group of buildings that sit atop the rolling hills not far from the Pacific ocean. The buildings are surrounded by orchards and working gardens that set a serene and meditative mood. Classic architecture abounds on this majestic campus and is highlighted by the stone-front library designed by the famed architect Wallace Neff (1885-1992).

The library was built with an endowment from the Doheny family in the 1930's with the stipulation that the second floor would be used to store the art treasures that the Doheny family collected on their travels all over the world. This storage would be sancro sanct until twenty five years after Estelle Doheny's death, at which time any items still in storage there would become the property of the Church. In the late eighties, Christy's of London was hired to auction the remaining art and the proceeds (in the millions), were put in trust. The interest earned by those funds was used to pay for rennovations and/or improvements to the library.

In 1991, Rich was commissioned to build a bookcase for the second floor music salon. Designed and constructed in eleven component sections, it is made of cherry, measured eighteen feet in length and was capped with a pediment that reached the height of nine and one-half feet. An early proto-type of the Micro Fence® Edge-Guide was used to fabricate the fluted columns between sections as well as to install the locks and hinges. You'll find this and many other interesting pieces on our gallery by clicking here.

If you are interested in being one of our featured artists send the pictures and details of your finished piece to us at microfence@microfence.com.
