Testimonials

“ I switched on the router, plunged in the cutter, and moved it in the direction of the oval perimeter of the ellipse. Smoothness personified — the action was a joy to experience. This jig is undoubtedly the most competent way of cutting ellipses and ovals with the certainty and control that it gives you. Not only is it a piece of brilliant engineering, it is presented in such a way as to dispel any misunderstanding of the geometric principles involved. This is essentially true of all the functions of the Micro Fence System. ”

Standard Ellipse Package (Accessory to our Circle Jig)

360.00 ‎- $736.00

Our newly redesigned Standard Ellipse Jig features a central axes plate made of cast aluminum tooling plate that will undoubtedly introduce a new level of flatness to the kit. Not only will it improve the smoothness of the jig’s travel, but it will also ensure that over time, the flatness and smooth performance will remain unchanged. This will be of particular interest to those using our optional vacuum hold-down capability which can now be utilized for any size elliptical operation.

Different lengths of T-slot tracks can be mounted on the main aluminum axes plate to allow a range of major diameters  from approx. 2′ to 6′. Differentials (the difference between major and minor axes) can be varied from as small as 2″ up to 12″. Our upgrade package provides longer tracks and rods for larger diameters and more elongated ellipses.

Coupled with Micro Fence’s fine-adjustment capability, this jig eliminates all the math that’s involved in cutting an ellipse and reduces it to two dimensions: the radius of the major diameter and the distance between the two centers. The actual cutting becomes an exercise in simplicity that produces the smoothest, cleanest cuts imaginable.

The Standard Ellipse package includes our aluminum 9 1/2″ axes plate fitted with a set of four six-inch T-slot tracks that are installed and aligned at our factory. There is also a set of 12″ tracks for a greater range of elliptical shapes and sizes. See our diagram below to see the size capabilities. Included are both the forward and rear centers and our Universal Router Plate, which you can drill for your router’s hole pattern or choose to have us pre-drill before we ship it to you. Each package includes a Model A Mounting Bar and a Riser Block Assembly needed to join the Router Plate to our Circle Jig, a Stabilizer Bar and an alignment gauge for track setting.

What comes in the box:

  • Main aluminum axis plate fitted with four 6″ T-Slot Tracks
  • An additional set of 12″ T-Slot Tracks
  • Our Universal Router Plate with Riser Block and Trimmer Posts to accept our Circle Jig
  • Model A Mounting Bar
  • Setup Alignment Gauge
  • Stabilizer Bar
  • Two Center Pins and UHMW T-Slot Slides

Setting Your Ellipse Jig for The Size and Shape Ellipse You Wish to Make

The minor radius is determined by the distance from the Front Trammel Center Stud to the router bit. It can always be described as one-half of the difference between the major and minor diameters of your ellipse.  For example, if you want your major axis to be 25” and your minor axis to be 21”, you’ll set the distance between centers at 2” (25”- 21” = 4” ÷ 2 = 2”). This is represented by the blue slide in the diagram above (Fig. 3).

Generally, we recommend setting the distance between centers first. Then the major radius can be set by positioning the router bit at the required distance (12 ½” our example) from the center post located in the Rear Trammel Bar (the blue or red slide in our drawing). This setting will be the radius (one-half) of the major axis.

This diagram of the Ellipse Jig shows the major and minor axes dimensions possible when set up with 6” T-Slot tracks and two pairs of 12” guide shafts. The router plate is positioned as close as possible to the top corner of the track (axes) plate.

The white slide represents the position where the Front Trammel Center Stud will pivot as the jig is turned. The distance from it to your router bit will be ½ your minor diameter.

The blue and red slides represent the smallest and largest differential settings that the 6” tracks will allow (2’’ to 6”). The blue and red ellipse shapes will result when either of those slide positions are set.

Remember: The differential (the distance between centers), will always be ½ of the difference between the major and minor diameters.

Using Longer Guide Shafts:
24” Guide Shafts: add 1’ to the radii (2’ overall)
36” Guide Shafts: add 2’ to the radii (4’ overall)
